Emily Dickinson’s poem in my artist’s book begins with, I think that the Root of the Wind is Water- The poem examines the inherent interconnection of environmental elements. Her words speak to the sublime mystery of natures web with a tone of reverence and wonder. My soft edged abstractions with their three dimensional movements are meant to compliment Dickinson’s words to create a gentle yet engaging experience. Today, as our planet experiences increasing climate instability, Dickinson’s message is a relevant reminder to honor and protect our environment.

I think that the Root of the Wind is Water- / It would not sound so deep / Were it a Firmamental Product- / Airs no Oceans keep- / Mediterranean intonations- / To a Currents Ear- / There is a maritime conviction / In the Atmosphere- //- Emily Dickinson
